Hey guys! As a new intern with the team, I was introduced to our app Eatventure at the start of this month, and I wanted to share my experience on this exciting app after using it (almost daily) for 3 weeks.

Why I Love It

Eatventure was created as the team identified a gap in the market for recommending good foods in Singapore, a country known for its foodie scene. We have new cafés and restaurants opening up frequently, so it can really get quite overwhelming in choosing a place to eat, and we end up sticking to the usual haunts. I think my fellow office ladies feel this when we agonise over lunch options 🥲 Otherwise, I find myself afraid to try new places incase they end up as yet another gimmick or merely instagrammable place with subpar foods 😑

How Eatventure attempts to solve these woes are through short-form friend recommendations on the app, since in-real-life we often find ourselves trusting word of mouth from those in our inner circle than strangers on the internet. Furthermore, another feature of Eatventure is their special AI chatbot which can help to recommend either places or menu items according to a pre-selected list of our preferences, so that we can offload the stress and what we call 选择困难症 to our friendly helper instead. Doesn’t that sound so much more convenient and helpful for this daily headache?

Those were my thoughts and feelings that led me to keep using Eatventure as the days progressed. I religiously scrolled through “Shoutouts”, which are basically the short form reviews that other users of the app leave of the restaurants they have visited. These messages have a word count limit, so that it’s easier for users to quickly browse and form their own impression of the restaurant, unlike other apps that allow users to write really long reviews and unnecessarily lengthen the process of us choosing a place to eat. The fact that these shoutouts also appear on the “Map” easily lets us identify foodie places scattered around Singapore. It’s exciting when I myself contribute to populating the map when I leave shoutouts–talk about visual satisfaction. I’ve already left 13 shoutouts since trying the app! When users find a restaurant that we are interested in, we can also save this place to their “Wish List” for a visit another day. The aforementioned chatbot will also take into consideration the places saved in our wish list to recommend places or dishes to us, so we know that this function is really personalised to our taste buds.

Still, perhaps what catches my eye most is the app mascot. Isn’t it so cute 🤩!! It really gives the feeling of us going on an adventure with the mascot, which is holding a map and gives off a search signal as if mimicking us also looking for a place to eat in the present time. The bright orange colour for the app also gives us that fun and fresh feeling, which is exactly what we should be feeling when going on a food adventure; not frustrated and bored!

In all, I’ve had a really good experience using it and definitely recommend other foodie friends to try it out. We can all contribute to making Singapore that foodie haven it’s known for, and just like how life is an adventure, so are our daily meals. Stay tuned for other blog posts for our lists of places sorted by themes (hidden gems, dessert shops that really hit the sweet spot etc.). Catch us on X, Lemon8 (coming soon), and Rednote as well!
